It's hard to believe in this age of digital this and that and everything else, the business card is still the number one advertising tool used to promote businesses and services. I have known this for quite some time and yet even I am guilty of making my business card just as run-of-the-mill as 99% of all the cards out there.
When I came across the video below, it was like a slap in the face. Here I am, promoting myself as a consultant to small businesses with a plane-Jane business card.

After reading the comments about this video and checking out his website, I found nothing truly revolutionary, except that he knows how to promote his business in a passionate and unique way. He has taken the ordinary business card and made it extra-ordinary. At least that's the lesson I am taking away here, and would like you to consider. What are we doing to make our businesses extra-ordinary in the minds of our potential customers? | |
I'm not saying we should all spend crazy amounts of money on business cards but we must take the time to rethink our approach and do something in that makes us stand out more and the business card is a great place to start.
Now, as much as I like my original design, it doesn't say directly or indirectly, anything about what my business is about. This makes it highly likely the person receiving this card will either through it away or toss it in a drawer to be forgotten. And it's two sided, with my contact info on the back. My new design that resembles a computer program we've all seen before (notepad) that is recognizable to anyone who has spent anytime on a computer. Additionally, it gives you an immediate visual impression of the type of consulting I do. It's somewhat self explanatory in mind of the person receiving the card.
Is this the perfect business card re-design? Probably not, however, it is a step in the right direction.
